How do you say a quarter in chinese?
I was at the market this morning buying groceries and the fruit stall i frequent decided to run out of watermelons. then i remembered that there was another stall a few blocks down so... skip there i did; tune in head, happy as a clam (this idiom. ever wondered why of all things, clam?).
Lo and behold when i arrived, there werent any quarter mellies! only whole mellies on the counter. The shopkeeper, a middle-aged lady (i'd say late fifties?), sat in a corner eating breakfast, back towards me. I must've raised my hand midway and froze because that was when i realised ... how do you say a quarter in mandarin??
so i tried:
Me: Auntie啊, 那个西瓜我可以买,一半一半吗?
Her: Huh?"
Me: Erm, 我要迮一个,25%
Her: HUH?
by then, she was frowning abit and looked a lil cross lol! yep i actually said er shi wu ba xian (25%) hahahahaha. In the end, I had to use my hands to "cut" the melly to show her that i wanted a quarter... thats when the champion statement came.
"Orhh boy you want one quarter is it?"
-.- rotten marmalade...
